hamsters do recognise owners and traits?

 

My smarter hamsters can make their way home and learn to pee at certain spots in their cage i.e. sand bath. Very smart hamsters can even learn to beg for food and even know when their owners are back from school and work.

 

One of my current hamster - Baba, has learn that I wake up around 7.30am in the morning and will rotinuely give him his fav treat. He will walk around the front part of his cage every morning and wait for me before I go off to walk ^^,)//

 

Isn't that sweet of him?

Do you know how to differentiate a Male and Female Hamsters...

Do you know that you can differentiate Male and Female hamster by checking their rear?

Mature adult male hamsters are very easy to differentiate by observing a large buttocks at the rear.

However, young hamsters are usually differentiate by inverting them around and check their private areas in between their hind legs.

Generally, baby/infant female pups have a shorter distance between the 2 holes spotted at their rear while baby/infant male pups have a longer distance between the 2 holes spotted at their rear.

This is usually done through experienced eyes as non-experienced people will have problem differentiate.

• Hamster are crepuscular by nature meaning that they are primary active around twilight (ie. dawn or dusk).

• Hamsters have fur-lined pouches on both sides of their cheeks that extend all the way to their shoulders, which they stuff full of food to be stored, brought back to their nest.

• Hamster tails are very short except for the Chinese dwarf hamster whose tail is the same length as the body.
  
• Hamsters are excellent listener and particularly sensitive to high-pitched noises.

• Hamsters communicate among themselves in the ultrasonic range that is beyond normal human hearing range.

• Hamster pups are born blind and only starts to open their eyes around 10th day

• Each hamster pup recognize their mother's scent and will always feed on the same milking tits.

• Hamster pups are usually wean around 14-21days and during weaning period, pups will drink milk and eat solid food at the same time.

• Mother of the litter will eat her pups if she is under stress or under threat or under nutrition
